Recently, I have noticed that there seems to be a trend happening in restaurants and now into homes with mismatched dining chairs. If you are adventurous in your decorating, it is a cool way to showcase your personality in the dining area.
Although this style of mismatching may seem to be an easy way to decorate, there are several design guidelines I want to dispense so you curate this look beautifully. Ironic isn't it?
There are two ways to mismatch chairs; same style but different colours or completely different chairs. The same chair route is fairly straight forward, I recommend getting pairs of chairs in the same colour or if possible, a chair in every colour. If you go the completely different chairs route, try to stay with chairs that are proportionate to each other. A large chair with arms and tall back sitting beside a chair with small back and no arms just looks visually off. Besides, it will put your place settings off. As an added bonus for going the second route, it can be an inexpensive way to furnish because stores that have 'one of' chairs are typical showroom models and heavily discounted because most people want a matching set. If this decorating style is for you, take your time to find the perfect mismatched chair and above all, have fun!
Happy decorating!
